No point in trying to do well in school because you’re gonna fail, no point in investing in this relationship because it’s going to end anyway. You feel empty. You feel numb. Talking about this doesn’t help with friends and family because sure, things seem okay with you on the outside. You hear, “What do you have to be depressed about?” or “It’s not that bad, you’ll be okay.” It hurts because it really is that bad. It’s so bad, with thoughts so dark, it can be scary sometimes.

You feel like what you’re dealing with isn’t that bad, compared to all the other sad things going on in the world.

Beating depression starts with slowly changing the way you talk to yourself. Learning to give yourself a break on those hard days, and a push on days you can do a little more. You can start to get back into those hobbies you used to love to do, begin to start feeling worthy again.
